Automating the Mailbox - TheAppDotNet

Automating the Mailbox

One of the things that I did last year was to automated my mailbox. It sounds weird, automating mailboxes, but what I did was to take a motion sensor and place it inside my mailbox so that whenever it was opened the first time of the day it would trigger a message from my computer which would say "you've got mail!". The HA program that I use kept a semaphore file so that the first time it detected motion in the mailbox every day it would create the file, and then delete it at 10am the next morning.

The reason I had it delete the file at 10AM was because if I had to mail anything it would be prior to that on my way to work and I didn't want it going off first thing in the morning.
