I've imported a few more of the missing posts from the last couple of months. Since I use static pages ALL of the posts are still there and indexed but they aren't currently linked to from the main or archives pages.

As time goes by I will continue importing them into the site. Anyone interested in helping out let me know. I have no spare time for this unfortunately but if you are interested in working a bit on the site, or heck, even becoming an author here, let me know.

Microsoft has decided after all to drop it's takeover attempt on Yahoo, so it's hopes of kicking Google's ass will have to wait for a while.

Eager Fans Await GTA IV

Eager fans await the release of the latest Grand Theft Auto game. Take Two could benefit from a big win with Grand Theft Auto IV, because it will give it more leverage as it fends off a hostile takeover bid from rival Electronic Arts. Bobbi Rebell reports from New York.

Site is Hosed!

| 1 Comment | 0 TrackBacks

So you may have noticed that I have hosed the site pretty badly :(

I do have everything saved but I just don't have the time to rewrite (even with copy and paste) all of the entries on the site. I will get the last month's worth back online in the next couple of days and recreate the ones I can't copy and paste with.

I am pretty upset. I do have physical backups but I can't import the stuff easily. It's unfortunate that it was four different blogs too.

I am running this back on the same server as Shadowscope so there should be less problems (I hope)

Gears of War is supposed to be a pretty cool new game. This is a quick review of the game presented by watchmojo.com

Judas Priest - Nostradamus

Judas Priest posted this press release over at their web site yesterday:

JUDAS PRIEST ROAR BACK WITH AN INSTANT EPIC, 'NOSTRADAMUS' ON MULTIPLE CLASSIC FORMATS & A WORLD TOUR

NostradamusAlbumCover600.jpg

Think 'Double vinyl, gatefold sleeve concept album,' and some of rock's all-time classic recordings come to mind. But in the realm of heavy metal, there has never been a double vinyl (now disc!) concept album that has managed to balance a thought-provoking storyline with metallic thunder. That was, until now. Metal legends JUDAS PRIEST will be releasing their sprawling double disc concept album, 'Nostradamus' via Columbia Records on Monday, June 16th in the UK/Europe, and a day later in the US on Epic Records.

Long in the works, 'Nostradamus' takes epic storytelling to a whole new level, as it recounts the life of this mysterious, world-known 16th Century French prophet. Some of the events that Nostradamus experts have interpreted as his predictions include the great fire of London in 1666, the rise of Adolf Hitler, and most recently, 9-11, among countless other renowned events.

"As in any concept piece, the lifeline needs to be of a solid source, taking the music over many levels of interest and perception," points out singer Rob Halford. "Nostradamus' contains new frontiers explored and defined. The sense of adventure and the journey we undertook bringing the man's life alive with metal was a real labour of love."

As with all new Priest releases, the group - singer Rob Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing, bassist Ian Hill, and drummer Scott Travis - will embark on a mammoth worldwide tour in support of 'Nostradamus.' Priest will be performing at the 2008 Download Festival - on a bill also featuring Kiss - which will serve as a 'homecoming' of sorts for the group, as they performed at the first-ever 'Monsters of Rock Festival' at Donington Park in 1980.

Since 1974, Judas Priest has been one of heavy metal's most successful bands, issuing such all-time classic albums as 1980's 'British Steel,' 1982's 'Screaming for Vengeance,' and 1990's 'Painkiller,' and such arena-rocking anthems as "Breaking the Law," "Living After Midnight," and "You've Got Another Thing Comin'." However, Priest's influence goes far beyond their music - they were the first metal band to embrace the 'leather biker look,' a fashion that has since become synonymous with the musical genre. Additionally, Halford's powerful four-and-a-half octave vocal range and the twin guitar harmonies of Downing and Tipton have been 'studied' by countless metal bands in Priest's wake.

"The 'Nostradamus' album - above all others - is perhaps the one I'm most proud of," says Tipton. "Whilst in essence and character still very much Judas Priest, it has afforded the opportunity to explore areas of classical and operatic dimensions that the band normally wouldn't. As a guitarist and writer it has inspired me to greater heights and opened new doors to intrigue and passion. From start to finish, it will take you through a magical experience filled with light, shade, drama, melody and emotion that reflects this unique man and his life."

"For me, 'Nostradamus' has been a musical journey without comparison," adds Downing. "The intrigue and mystery that surrounds this revered man has expanded my perception of heavy metal to the highest plateau and enabled me to reach the outer limits of my imagination and transport unique feelings and emotions to the instrument that allows me to express myself."

In addition to the regular jewel case double CD version of the album, collectors will undoubtedly be interested in hunting down a copy of a Deluxe Double CD housed in a 48 page hardbound book package. But that's not all - a Super Deluxe Box-set version will also be available with triple vinyl, the double CD, an expanded booklet & a poster.

Most bands of this high stature would be happy to play it safe. But not Judas Priest, who continue to take chances and break new ground. No other rock band could have pulled off such a grand statement, and Judas Priest have raised the bar once more with 'Nostradamus.'

As to why they chose to make a concept album about Nostradamus, Tipton explains: "We didn't - he chose us. We feel it was meant to be!"

Blog Rankings

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks

Blog ranking services are kind of funny. In the end how they rank you really doesn't matter. I have always assumed that because most of them pull data from stuff like how many blogs Technorati thinks link to you, or how many visits per day you "should be getting" based on backlinks. I still use the occasionally go check out the Truth Laid Bear for example to see where I sit, although TTLB seems to be up and down and not real reliable.

Not only that but I like seeing actual traffic and statistics as well as demographics. It's not necessarily as important on some of my sites as it is on the ones that are monetized but I still like to see who's visiting me and how often. Just one of those control things I guess.

I started using Izea Ranks a few months ago to see how well they work. I use MyBlogLog, Google Analytics and IZEARanks. Why three? I wanted to see how accurate they were. They all show slightly different statistics but are somewhat close to my own. The thing about any of these is that generally their code is loaded via JavaScript so if the portion of the page never gets loaded that the JavaScript is listed on, that visit never gets counted.

Anyhow, so far I like IZEARanks. They rank the blogosphere (or the portion that's using IZEARanks) using real traffic and link data rather than just extrapolating the information using some kind of formula which may or may not be even close to the truth. What's really cool is the fact that the algorithm used to find RealRank is public, not some hidden page ranking score that you don't have any idea how to come up with it.

Really though, where you rank and how many visits you get isn't as important as enjoying myself is. That's the bottom line. What kind of satisfaction I get in return for the time I put into my site is much more important than any rank, whether it's found by real numbers or mathematical formulas.

A huge unmanned European transport ship capable of delivering several tons of cargo to the ISS has been cleared to launch on Sunday. The Automated Transfer Vehicle has been named Jules Verne and will be blasted into space from a modified European Ariane 5 rocket which is going to launch from Kourou, French Guinea.

The various space agencies are hoping that the ATV will be able to take over many of the supply runs that bring water, food, fuel and spare parts, particularly after NASA scraps the space shuttle program in five years.

Depending on the life span of the vehicle, the European Space Agency plans to build a total of five of them

Gary Gygax Dies at 69

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks

Any good geek should know who Gary Gygax was. Along with Co-Creator Dave Arneson he helped launch the fantasy gaming genre by creating a fantasy game called Dungeons & Dragons in 1974.

My dad picked up the game in 1976 and introduced it to us. I was immediately hooked and was heavily involved in gaming until the early eighties and then still played off and on until the last decade. Now I just don't have the time. I must have 300 books, Dragon magazines and modules packed away in my basement dating from the seventies until the early nineties.

Gary Gygax had been suffering from health problems for several years including an abdominal aneurysm according to his wife. His death was caused by those same problems.

Funeral arrangements for the man who died today are still pending. Along with his wife he is survived by six children.
